About the project: An unexpected death amidst a wedding grips an Iranian-American family with a moral dilemma. Told in Farsi and English, RAZ explores how traumas are passed down in immigrant families striving for a better existence. RAZ received pre-production funding from The FOFIF 2020.

About the filmmaker: Maryam L’Ange is a Tehran-born, New York-based filmmaker who was raised in Belgium, France, England, DC, and California. Trained in theater and law, she is a former drum and bass DJ and music producer. Somesuch Productions took an early interest in her directing career, producing her projects. She went on to develop and sell six episodes of the first original drama series she created to HBO. Her films have won numerous grants and honors, most recently she is a recipient of The Future of Film is Female’s 2020 Pre-Production Grant and was shortlisted as a Finalist in the Tribeca Chanel Through Her Lens 2021 Filmmaker Program. She is prepping her debut feature.
