ABOUT THE FILM: After waking in the brush behind a gas station, X bikes through ruinous rural landscapes until they are stopped by the sight of a bleeding fox in the road. This interruption haunts them as they continue on to their isolating job at a decrepit discount store. When an enigmatic customer approaches them with a mysterious proposal, X is drawn out of the store into the wild unknown.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER: Cherry Nin is a film director and artist whose work centers on queer ecologies and the reification of life in defiance of capitalist death drives. Their films have been presented at Canal Projects, Ann Arbor Film Festival, the Wexner Center for the Arts, Spectacle Theater, The Kitchen, and in basements, galleries, and theaters across the United States. Nin's work is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts' Media Arts Assistance Fund and the Wexner Center for the Arts' Film/Video Studio. They hold an MFA in Moving Image from Bard College.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: With a cast and crew composed of friends and ongoing collaborators, the film was shot in a guerrilla style. Existing between the hyper-real and the oneiric, TAKE THE OATH extends my investment in depicting harsh capitalist realities in contrast with dreams and the subconscious, using filmmaking as a space to explore spiritual persistence and queer transcendence through communion with the natural world—proposing a resilient queer ecology defined by a refined artistry of transmutation and relation.
