THE FOFIF DISTRIBUTION

Academy Award Winner Sean Baker and Hannah Peterson in conversation after a screening of Peterson’s The Graduates at Vidiots in Los Angeles (November 2024). A FOFIF Release.

The Future of Film is Female offers an equitable and bespoke approach to film distribution; getting independent films in front of the right audiences.

The Distribution arm to The Future of Film is Female (a non-profit based in New York) offers a bespoke distribution plan for stellar independent films directed by women and nonbinary filmmakers. By releasing 1-2 films per year, we carefully assess our distribution approach on each film's needs and individual cinema's audiences.

Our attention to detail, honing in on quality over quantity, is an intentional response to this moment of distribution crisis. The mission is to successfully engage audiences with these independent works by women and nonbinary filmmakers who may not otherwise get a theatrical release and, thus, carry on the legacy of independent films.

2025 FOFIF FILMS FOR RELEASE

SUNFISH (& OTHER STORIES ON GREEN LAKE)

Written & directed by Sierra Falconer.

In this stunning debut feature, lives intertwine around Green Lake as a girl learns to sail, a boy fights for first chair, two sisters operate a bed-and-breakfast, and a fisherman is after the catch of his life. Premiered at Sundance 2025.

Release strategy: Theatrical NY and LA release, one-night events in multiple cities, leading into VOD.

MORE BEAUTIFUL PERVERSIONS

Written & directed by Pavli Serenetsky

A disillusioned teenager from the city trails a mysterious stranger into the woods, where they discover the hidden world of plants, their queerness, and a deeper, more meaningful connection to the environment.

Release strategy: an untraditional, innovative, event-based approach focusing on environmental outreach/partnerships at venues and festivals leading up to Earth Day 2026.
