The FOFIF Short Film Fund Submission Guidelines (2023)

Short film projects by women and non-binary filmmakers that are in pre-production, production, and post-production are eligible. We do not provide funding for episodic works, explicit proof-of-concepts, or for festival submissions. Our guidelines are as follows:

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Director identifies as a woman or non-binary.

  • Preferred length is no more than 20 minutes. Don't stress if it's 2 mins over that but we’re firm it’s not over 25 min.

  • All genres welcome: narrative-fiction, documentary, horror, science-fiction, etc.

  • International films are eligible.

  • One submission per filmmaker is preferred.

  • It’s important to fill out sections on your website, socials, images, and biography so we can learn as much about you and your film as possible.

  • We are unable to extend the submission deadline.

PRE-PRODUCTION and PRODUCTION GUIDELINES

  • Ensure that your script or deck (preferred) is included.

  • Link to a previous work sample is required.* *If this is your first film, please include something that represents your style and intentions.

POST-PRODUCTION GUIDELINES

  • We prefer you to prioritize the Heard City (sound) or Nice Shoes (color) in your application.

  • Submission must include a draft version of your film.
Films still in script mode are not eligible. Apply for pre-production.
